Abstract: An exact solution is obtained for the behavior of an ideal elasto plastic hollow sphere which is thermally stressed by a slowly increasing temperature difference between the inner and outer surfaces. An approximate analysis in which elastic strains are neglected is also presented. It is shown that the approximate analysis gives the asymptotic form of the exact solution at infinitely high temperatures.
