Special Section Honoring Professor M. Yousuff Hussaini 70th Birthday

Abstract

Professor Hussaini was born in India and received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in mathematics and physics from the University of Madras, India. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1970. He returned to India and joined the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), ultimately becoming the acting division head for aerodynamics and part of the effort that led to the launch of India's first satellite. Following an appointment at NASA Ames, he moved to the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (ICASE) at the NASA Langley Research Center, where he served as a senior staff scientist, chief scientist, and finally, director of the institute. In 1996, he relocated to Florida State University where he founded the School of Computational Science and Engineering and developed a cutting edge, interdisciplinary research program. He now holds the Sir James Lighthill Professorship of Mathematics and Computational Science & Engineering at FSU. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and the Institute of Physics in the U.K.
