Abstract: Results of both theoretical and experimental investigations of the flow in a Francis water turbine are presented. The flow visualization with the aid of rotating five-borehole probes provides the relative velocities, the pressure and energy distribution, the slip factor, the boundary layers, and the secondary flow. It is the intent of this paper to compare the theoretical and experimental results and to inform about the usefulness of the assumptions based upon the method of computation.
