    Abstract: A procedure for evaluating the stress results of a finite element analysis employing shell∕plate elements is proposed based on several previous papers by the authors and a review of other related publications. This procedure relates the stress levels produced by the finite element software to the provisions of ASME Sec. VIII, Div. 2 (ASME, 2004, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 2, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, New York).
