Abstract: This paper presents an automated system for the selection of the length, clearance, and lubricant viscosity which optimize the performance of a hydrodynamic journal bearing, under specified values or ranges of load and speed. The study illustrates the feasibility of applying optimal programming techniques for the development of bearing design systems.
