    Theory of the Mechanism of Sealing with Application to Face Seals

    Source: Journal of Tribology:;1969:;volume( 091 ):;issue: 004::page 704

    Abstract: A theory of the mechanism of sealing is presented. This theory accounts for the load carrying capacity of the seal and allows a pressure gradient to be maintained across the seal with no leakage. The theory is applied to a simple face seal. The results agree with many experimentally observed phenomena.
