Abstract: This paper reviews the influence of the characteristics of the solid surface on the boiling of cryogenic fluids. Particular emphasis is placed on papers presented in the cryogenics section of the 1968 Annual ASME meeting. Hysteresis, boiling-site spreading, and the influence of radiation on the surface are discussed in detail.
