Abstract: Values of the redundant work factor in rod drawing were determined experimentally for four metals over a wide range of variables; none of the metals were strain hardened prior to drawing. The method of superposition of stress-strain curves before and after drawing was used, and an expression for the redundant work factor was found to be related to the strain hardening characteristics of the metal being drawn. Use of this factor was made to predict certain mechanical properties of the drawn metals; these agreed quite well with the values measured experimentally.
