    Ductile Creep Rupture of Shells With Strain Hardening and Time-Dependent Loading

    Abstract: This paper presents an analysis of the tensile instability phenomenon in a thin-walled membrane shell of revolution undergoing creep while subjected to a time-dependent internal pressure. Time-independent plastic deformation due to biaxial stress, including strain hardening and biaxial-stress creep, are included. The theory is applied to an example of a typical closed-end cylindrical pressure vessel to emphasize the importance of considering both plastic and creep deformations due to biaxial stress in calculations of ductile creep rupture.
