Abstract: A study is made of the ratcheting growth of an elastic-plastic one-dimensional element subjected to thermal cycling in the presence of a sustained axial load. The cyclic temperature distribution across the element is taken as either linear or parabolic. The cyclic growth of the element is computed as a function of the cyclic temperature and sustained axial load.
