Abstract: A computer model has been developed in Visual Basic which predicts the power, capacity, and efficiencies of a scroll compressor for given operating conditions and scroll designs. The operating conditions and data related to the compressor’s geometry are inputs for the model. The model includes the effects of internal leakage and over and under compression. The compression process is broken up into a series of six degree compression steps. The work and thermodynamic state of each pocket of refrigerant are calculated as it travels from the suction to the discharge reservoir. Once the compression cycle is completed, the compressor’s volumetric and isentropic efficiencies are calculated. Lastly, the work and capacity of the compressor are calculated through energy balances using the appropriate inlet and outlet refrigerant conditions.
