Abstract: A study was made of the temperatures in a cylindrical receiver resulting from rapid filling with a compressible fluid. The classical bottle-filling case was compared with the filling of a slender cylinder. The results indicate that the isentropic temperature rise was never realized even in cylinders filled in 1 /40 sec. The temperature field was studied using a linear partial differential equation in transformed coordinates developed by H. Pfriem. The case of a pressure transient linear in time was solved. Simple methods are presented for transforming the results back to physical or real variables.
