Abstract: This paper presents the results of research on the influence of radial expansion on the final dimensions of the workpiece when machining it at elevated temperatures. Equations are developed for temperature distributions and radial expansions of the workpieces, including the effects of the cooling time in air. Three basic heating methods are studied: Through-heating, line heat source, and point heat source. In addition, numerical and experimental results of the through-heating method are presented. Also, theoretical analysis and experimental results are discussed in detail. The results show temperature distributions within and the variations of the workpiece diameter caused by temperature and cooling time.
