Abstract: A number of power spectral density (PSD) estimators were assessed using real laser Doppler anemometer (LDA) data from grid generated turbulence. PSD estimates from the raw data via the slotting technique and direct transform method were compared to those estimated from sample and hold, linear, and Kalman reconstructed velocity time histories. Of the reconstruction schemes, only Kalman reconstruction was shown to significantly reduce the effects of noise on the measurements leading to an additional 2 decades in power of high frequency information.
