Abstract: In the past, only a relatively small number of investigations were conducted using hot-wire anemometry in transonic and subsonic slip flows. This was due to the complexity of the applicable equations. Now it appears that the developments in electronics and computational methods have made it practical to reconsider this problem. A review of past work performed in these flow regimes using hot-wire anemometry will be made along with a description of recent efforts made to develop methods which might be used to make measurements in these flow regimes. A detailed version of this review article is available through the electronic JFE.
