    Collaborative Testing of Turbulence Models

    Abstract: This is a brief report on a special project. Data from experiments and simulations were collected and distributed to over 100 turbulence modelers and other participants in 16 different countries. The modelers mailed the results of their “predictions” back to the organizers for distribution to all the participants for comment. The data covered most types of turbulent flow, compressible and incompressible, but the emphasis was on complex (strongly nonequilibrium) flows. No model was capable of predicting the full range of flows to good engineering accuracy, but stress-transport models seemed to perform best. The exchange of views and results alone has been of real benefit to modelers.
