    An Ion-Drag Thrust Bearing

    Source: Journal of Fluids Engineering:;1966:;volume( 088 ):;issue: 001::page 143

    Abstract: A means of pressurizing thrust bearings through the use of ions and high electric fields is investigated theoretically and experimentally. Theoretically, the mechanism is attributed to corona generated like-charged ions. Experimentally, this effect does exist but with other effects present. In both cases, the carrying capacity of the bearing is quite small. Applications of the bearing are rather limited.
