    Some Mechanical Properties of Uranium-10 Weight Percent Molybdenum Alloy Under Dynamic Tension Loads

    Abstract: Dynamic tensile tests were conducted on uranium-10 weight percent molybdenum alloy in as-cast and wrought conditions. Carbon content was varied from 71 to 800 ppm. Heat-treatment was also varied. Tests were conducted on a universal testing machine at strain rates of 4.8 × 10−5 and 0.057 in/in/sec and on a modified Dynapak at strain rates up to 100 in/in sec. Tests were run from 75 to 600 F. Relatively low strain rates were used to determine the susceptibility to stress corrosion while the higher strain rates demonstrated the sensitivity of various mechanical properties to strain rate effects.
