Abstract: The flow in a complex engine manifold is computed by generalizing the three-branch to the n -branch junction model. Energy-related pressure losses are implemented in the one-dimensional continuity equation and the effects of choked flow and changing flow patterns are considered. The computational results are compared with measurements on an engine with multi-entry pulse converter and compact single pipe exhaust systems. The influence of several parameters on the fuel consumption is determined.
