Abstract: Nonaxisymmetric deflections were measured on clamped shallow spherical shells loaded over a small circular area concentric with the apex. The first nonaxisymmetric pattern contained three lobes. Additional load produced a maximum of five lobes and further loading showed a tendency to reverse the pattern sequence. Each configuration occurred within a relatively small range of corresponding values of normalized deflection δ and dimensionless load P*.
