Abstract: This paper develops and illustrates a general procedure for accurately determining the relative effect on performance of changes in wheel variables at various feed rates in vertical-spindle rotary-table surface grinding. Present techniques are discussed and their problems outlined; a method of accurate comparison of performance, involving a plot of net power consumption versus wheel-wear rate for various wheel grades, is developed; and the use of this method is illustrated with the results of a test series showing the effect of abrasive grit size on wheel performance.
