| description abstract | A tapered pipe (or “line”) is a convenient transformer for pulses of pressure or volume flux, but the pulse usually becomes distorted, depending on the geometry of the taper. The principal objective of this paper is to present and illustrate a method for determining the distortion of short pulses and to show that it is possible to construct a distortion-free line. In the model considered a pulse input of volume flux is applied to one end of a tapered line containing an inviscid liquid and the form of the output pulse is found for a termination consisting of a very long uniform line. | |
