    Abstract: Higher settings of hydraulic turbines are proposed which will result in lower relative tailwater levels with associated operational improvements. Present selling criteria may lead to unsatisfactory operation at higher tailwater levels. Cavitation damage is not necessarily prevented by low settings, and draft-tube surges may occur under high tailwater conditions.
