Abstract: Conventional kinematic concepts of rolling can be seriously in error if applied to heavily loaded contacts, particularly if traction is large. Two relevant theorems of rolling are stated, which arose from consideration of an extreme case pertaining to pneumatic tires. For a comprehensive analysis of the latter, a mechanical analog is proposed.
