Abstract: A theory of the mechanics of the rotary swaging process is developed. This leads to relationships for predicting relative rotation between dies and workpiece, idling, and forming power requirements, and the various motions and velocities within the head-stock mechanism. An experimental program is described wherein idling and forming power requirements are measured and a test technique is developed and applied to measuring the greatest degree of internal profile filling which is possible under various forming conditions. Agreement is found between analytic and experimental results.
