    Abstract
Abstract. The efficiency assessment of homogenization models for determining the effective thermomechanical properties of multilayer structural elements is highly relevant for the advancement of modern theories of thermoelasticity, heat conduction, and materials science. This paper presents a comparative analysis of the homogenization model with microlocal parameters used for averaging the properties of stratified structures forming a functionally graded composite versus the actual model of the layered assembly. In order to perform fast and relevant verification, an efficient numerical technique for solving a nonstationary heat-conduction problem for a multilayer spherical vessel is presented. The sufficiency of the homogenization model is verified with regard to the contrasting material properties forming the layered structure, their number and geometry, and the type of thermal loading.
