Abstract. This work describes the development and verification of an analytical modeling tool for a passive, lower back exoskeleton with adjustable force transmission capabilities. The analytical model allows for rapid evaluations of support force transmission capabilities based on various geometric design parameters. It aims to observe the behavior of different combinations of the design parameters to help provide effective, safe support for future end-user validation procedures. The verification approach combines two traditional processes, utilizing both experimental and analytical comparisons through an in vitro/in silico method. The analytical model closely predicts the progression profiles of the support force within a prescribed range of motion, enabling the estimation of tunable force–deflection characteristics of the passive energy storage mechanism across different elastic band configurations. Future developments will focus on improving the exoskeleton’s design and on using the verified model to investigate biomechanical effectiveness in real-world applications of the adjustable range of support forces it can provide.
