Abstract. In order to improve the hydrogen absorption characteristics of metal hydride (MH), a three-dimensional hydrogen storage model is established for hydrogen absorption process between hydrogen and LaNi5, and it is proved accurate by experimental results of literature. Based on this model, the influences of different operating parameters on hydrogen storage characteristics are analyzed in hydrogen absorption process. The results show that it is recommended to select 2500 W/m2 K as the convective heat transfer coefficient of external fluid to obtain better hydrogen absorption characteristics. Finally, the influence degree of different operating parameters on hydrogen storage characteristics is further obtained based on orthogonal design. The results show that from an engineering perspective, it is suggested to adjust the appropriate initial pressure of hydrogen to optimize hydrogen absorption process. Meanwhile, considering from reaction time, the level Pressure = 0.8 MPa, Fluid temperature = 308 K, and Heat transfer coefficient = 500 W/m2 K is proposed to be the optimal operation strategy comprehensively in engineering. The above results can provide the theoretical basis for the improvement of hydrogen storage characteristics for metal hydride.
