This study replaces the auxiliary structures on the surface of high-rise buildings with vertical rough strips. Turbulent wind fields in the atmospheric boundary layer are generated using the narrow band synthesis random flow generation method. Large-eddy simulations are conducted to investigate the effects of different configurations of rough strips on surface wind pressure and aerodynamic forces of the buildings. The results show that the presence of rough strips increases the wind pressure on the windward side of the high-rise building and decreases the wind pressure on the leeward and lateral sides; it reduces the model aerodynamic coefficient significantly, and the maximum reduction of the mean drag coefficient and the fluctuating drag coefficient are 15.5% and 18.9% respectively, and the maximum reduction of the fluctuating lift coefficient is 58.7%. The presence of rough strips can effectively reduce the base moment coefficient, and the maximum reduction of the mean base moment coefficient and fluctuating base moment coefficient in the along-wind direction is 16.5% and 24.8%, and the maximum reduction of the fluctuating base moment coefficient in crosswind direction is 57.6%. In general, it can be concluded that the that the arrangement of rough strips is beneficial to improve the wind resistance of high-rise buildings.
