Beginning with this January 2023 issue, we inaugurate our new title: ASME Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer. This evolution away from the name Journal of Heat Transfer has come to pass out of our concern that this title may seem too limiting. In our estimation, the new moniker will help attract submissions from a broader universe of disciplines and authors who are making discoveries related to both heat and mass transfer.Biology and the health sciences are prime examples of these types of disciplines. We have published papers in these areas under our old name. In fact, we had an entire special issue on bioheat and mass transfer dedicated to the memory of the great scholar, Professor Ernest G. Cravalho. That volume explored issues such as parameterizing the effects of tumor shape in magnetic nanoparticle thermotherapy, the bioheat transfer basis of human thermoregulation, 3-D bioprinting, and ultrarapid laser calorimetry for the assessment of crystallization in cryoprotectants. However, because these issues of bioheat and mass transfer always involve not only heat, but also mass transfer considerations, we believe the new title will be even more attractive to authors working in these areas.
