Thermal Rectification in Lumped and Nonlumped Multilayer Oscillating Thermomagnetic Devices
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. Thermomagnetic devices can exhibit time-periodic oscillations between stationary substrates due to temperature-dependent magnetic forces. These oscillations shuttle thermal energy across the device and can be ... -
An Optimization Method for Valve Seat Contour to Improve the Sealing Performance of Cryogenic Butterfly Valve
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. Triple-offset butterfly valves are manufactured under standard temperature conditions. During cryogenic service, critical sealing structures undergo uneven deformation due to thermal contraction. This leads to ... -
Multilayered Polyimide Nanocomposite Coatings for Enhanced Tribological Performance
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. This study reports the development and tribological evaluation of multilayered polyimide (PI) nanocomposite coatings to enhance both mechanical and tribological performance. A multilayer architecture was adopted, ... -
Qualitative Evaluation of Medium Stimuli for Creativity in Artificial Intelligence-Powered Product Design
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a crucial role in modern product design, yet its integration into the design process presents unique challenges. To support designers in AI-powered design ideation, our team ... -
Transient Development of a Laminar Separation Bubble Over a Low Reynolds Number Airfoil
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. Airfoils operating in low Reynolds number (Re) conditions frequently have a laminar separation bubble (LSB) form as a part of the natural boundary layer (BL) transition. A transient analysis of the Kelvin–Helmholtz ... -
Modeling Focused Breaking Wave Interactions With Pile-Net Aquaculture Structures Using REEF3D
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. For the first time, the hydrodynamics of and nonlinear wave–structure interactions between pile-net aquaculture structures (PNAS) and focused breaking waves are investigated using the open-source computational ... -
A Drag Model for Rough Surfaces Learned Using Feature Importance-Informed Symbolic Regression
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. Predicting the drag of rough surfaces presents a long-standing challenge in fluid dynamics. To address this, we propose a new drag model developed through a feature importance-informed symbolic regression method. ... -
Dynamic Response of Multi-Module Floating Structures: Influence of Module Number and Connector Type
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. Very large floating structures (VLFS) typically consist of several connected modules and connectors. The layout of floating modules and connector types will influence the motion responses and mooring forces, which ... -
Research on Methods of Determining Design Stress of Square Shell
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. The analysis and design of square cross section vessels have always been difficult and complicated due to the lack of theoretical solutions. Current design codes rely on empirical formulas for stress calculations ... -
Characterization of Non-PFAS Underfill Behavior Under Harsh Operating Conditions
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS for convenience, are a group of synthetic chemicals that were first produced in the 1940s and are being widely used across a variety of industries. Their unique ... -
Correlation for Transitional Reynolds Number and Assessment of RANS for Bypass Transition
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. Direct numerical simulations (DNSs) of bypass transition are performed for zero-pressure-gradient flat-plate boundary layers with inlet freestream turbulence intensity (FSTI) ranging from 0.75% to 6%. The DNS ... -
Multi-Objective Optimization for Efficiency Improvement and Aerodynamic Excitation Reduction of a Diagonal Flow Fan Based on Machine Learning
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. The aerodynamic excitation within the diagonal flow fan is a key source of its vibration and noise problems. To enhance efficiency and mitigate aerodynamic excitation of diagonal flow fan, this study proposes a ... -
Efficient Impeller Optimization for Centrifugal Pumps Based on Kriging Surrogate Model With Multipoint Infill Strategy
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. To improve the operational efficiency of centrifugal pumps, optimization methods based on intelligent algorithms often incur high computational costs, while those relying on surrogate models are largely dependent ... -
Unraveling Coherent Structures in Pump-Turbine Tandem Cascades Using Enhanced SPOD
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. In high-speed reversible pump-turbines, tandem cascade flow instability under off-design low-flow (LF) conditions severely restricts the performance of pumped storage units, leading to efficiency loss, vibration ... -
Numerical Investigation of Aerodynamic Characteristics of Parked Aircraft Influenced by Near-Surface Wind Field Conditions
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. The near-surface wind field has a significant impact on the stability of parked aircraft at airports. This study employs the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) shear stress transport (SST) modeling approach ... -
Large Eddy Simulations of the Part-Load Instability in a Pump-Turbine in Pump Mode
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. To improve grid stability, pump-turbines (PTs) in pump storage plants are used in pump mode further away from their design point. In pump mode, a positive slope on the characteristic curve Hn-Q indicates an ... -
Aerodynamic and Aeroacoustic Simulations of a Wind Turbine Airfoil Employing a New Transitional IDDES Method
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2026)Abstract. The aerodynamic and aeroacoustic performance of wind turbines is strongly influenced by boundary layer transition, especially over thick trailing-edge airfoils commonly used near the blade root. Accurate prediction ... -
