description abstractBased on fuzzy evaluation and the analysis hierarchy process, this paper develops a method for evaluating the self-healing capability of asphalt mixtures. In developing the method, 18 judgment indicators were selected on the basis of a study on the influence factors of self-healing capability, and a numerical approach was established to describe the properties of these indicators. Four types of subordinate functions with 16 mathematical expressions were set up to describe the properties of the continuous indicators, and empirical approaches were used to deal with the dispersion indicators. Based on the improved analysis hierarchy process, a renovated comprehensive multilevel evaluation method was developed to evaluate the self-healing capability of asphalt mixtures. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the method were validated with excellent results using a type of asphalt mixture from engineering practice.
