description abstractThe problems of unbonded contact between a finite Timoshenko beam and an elastic layer are considered in this paper. The two bodies are assumed to be in frictionless contact, the contact being maintained only by compressive stresses. The extent of contact and the distribution of contact stress are the primary unknown quantities, The layer is assumed homogeneous and underlain by a rigid base, with the lower boundary being either perfectly bonded or smooth. Shear deformation is considered using Timoshenko beam theory. The contact problem reduces to the solution of an integral equation for the unknown contact pressure
