description abstractA companion paper presented simplified procedures for earthquake analysis of the fundamental mode response of concrete gravity dams including the separate effects of dam‐foundation rock interaction and dam‐water interaction with reservoir bottom absorption. These procedures are extended to develop a simplified analytical procedure for evaluation of the response of concrete gravity dams to earthquake ground motion including the simultaneous effects of dam‐water interaction, reservoir bottom absorption, and dam‐foundation rock interaction. Expressions for the parameters of an equivalent SDF system that models the fundamental mode response of dams are derived, a procedure to implement the analytical procedure is outlined, and an extension to consider the response contributions of the higher vibration modes of the dam is briefly mentioned.
