description abstractA Review is made at first of the design formula for ship collisions. The FEM simulations are employed to compute the time history of ship collision force, and the results of ship collision forces from code design formula and from FEM simulations are compared. The applicability of the design formula in codes is discussed, and some suggestions for the use of the code design formula are presented.
