description abstractGiven the raveling sensitive characteristics of cold recycled mix (CRM) with emulsified asphalt (EA), new procedure of mix design and performance evaluation was proposed. For the mix design, modified Superpave mix-design was recommended based on the analysis and modification of Marshall mix-design, and appropriate molding techniques should be adopted. For the performance evaluation, it is suggested that the performance evaluation of CRM with EA should be divided into two stages, i.e. initial curing and final curing. In the initial curing, Cantabro test was constructed to evaluate its raveling resistance and modified AASHTO T-283 test was used to analyze the adverse influence of water existing in the recycled mixture. In final curing, the performance tests including wheel-test, freeze-thaw split test and bending beam test were used to evaluate the pavement performance in service. Using waste asphalt mixture from a practical project, the performance of CRM prepared and constructed in accordance with the new procedure was evaluated in laboratory and compared with conventional AC-25 HMA. It shows that this procedure can be used as feasible method for CRM design with EA.
