description abstractThis paper studied vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to infrastructure communication protocols, i.e., Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) and Wireless Access in a Vehicular Environment (WAVE). It investigated the latest development of global vehicular communication standards of US, EU, Japan and China, revealed DSRC system architecture, fundamentals and standards, analyzed the key techniques of DSRC physical layer and MAC layer, and discussed the difference between IEEE 802. 11a and IEEE 802. 11p. Finally, it foresaw the future development prospect of DSRC in automobile industry and communication, and gave a deep insight into technical characteristics of DSRC communication, which provided a reference for working out the vehicular communication development strategy in China.
