description abstractA prototype of traffic flow monitoring system based on vehicle wireless communication module was put forward. Each moving vehicle equipped with wireless communication module in this system was regarded as a moving sensor to acquire traffic information with low cost. On this basis, one concrete application was proposed: a base station detects the vehicle with wireless communication module, and estimates the traffic volume through adaptive Kalman filtering based on the feedback of estimation result. A simulation platform based on cellular automata was established and the effectiveness of the estimation algorithm was confirmed as well.
