description abstractThis paper presents the results of a comparison of at least 50 specific actions a consulting firm can take to ensure quality. Topics include goals and objectives, organizational structure, public relations practices, office environment and technical sources, professional technical staff (staffing), professional development, employee advancement, project acceptance and proposal review, and loss prevention. The survey is given to upper‐level management of all firms and to relatively new staff members in selected firms. The survey results contrast the firms' answers to prepared questions, as well as compare the answers of junior and senior members. Poor communication appears to be common within most of the firms. The survey also provides useful insight into trained recruiting, employee advancement, and loss prevention.
