description abstractTo expedite the fabrication of reinforcing cages of reinforced concrete (RC) columns, a new configuration of lateral steel for RC columns is proposed. To evaluate the effect of such a configuration on the seismic performance of the column, six RC columns with a cross section of 400 × 400 mm were tested. It was found from the test results that the new configuration of lateral steel had better seismic performance than that usually used in design.
