description abstract | An expert system to design two-way slabs is developed using GURU as the development shell. The system designs two-way slabs using the American Concrete Institute (ACI) direct design method. The user interface, written in GURU's procedural language, is used to direct the overall design process; the experts' knowledge is stored in the knowledge base; the inference process is driven by GURU's inference engine according to the knowledge base; and the material properties and design information for two-way slabs are stored in the database. It is found that the developed expert system for slab design is efficient. The applicability of the expert system is presented using an example problem. | |
