description abstractStatistical records on the number of fire alarms reported in a company of 17 sites during a 2 year period were analyzed. Site inspections and detailed analysis on the automatic fire alarm systems in 9 of the 17 sites were performed. The environmental conditions and the human traffic flow through the buildings were studied. Main causes of false fire alarms were construction works carried out in the sites and detector faults. Correlation relations of the number of false alarms with the number of detectors of the automatic fire alarm systems, daily human traffic flows, and other parameters were derived, of which four equations were recommended.
