description abstract | This paper presents results from cyclic testing of a large-scale T-shaped composite plate shear walls concrete-filled (C-PSW/CF) specimen having bolted splices. The horizontal splice was designed to develop approximately 60% of the faceplate yield strength in tension, while vertical splices were designed on the basis of slip-resistance, using steel component and composite section approaches. A proposed simplified method was used to calculate the target flexural strength of the horizontal splice to develop the bearing strength of 2.4 and 3.0dtFu. The tested wall achieved the target flexural strength and maintained at least 80% of peak strength until 2.4% positive drift and −4.3% negative drift, with no slip observed in vertical splices. This research demonstrated that the behavior of a bolted C-PSW/CF under axial and cyclic lateral loads is satisfactory for the intended purposes, and that designing horizontal bolted splices governed by bearing strength results in a ductile response. | |
