description abstractIn this study, static compaction and gyratory compaction were used to prepare cement-stabilized macadam (CSM) specimens, and their drying shrinkage and freeze–thaw resistance were investigated. The effects of gradation type, cement content, and compaction method on drying shrinkage performance were examined. Comparative analysis revealed that specimens compacted using the gyratory compaction method for 90 to 130 cycles exhibited lower cumulative drying shrinkage strain compared to specimens compacted statically. With an increase in the number of gyratory compaction cycles, the cumulative drying shrinkage strain gradually decreased. However, after reaching a certain number of gyratory compaction cycles, the reduction in cumulative drying shrinkage strain became less significant. Regarding freeze–thaw resistance, a model was introduced to estimate the freeze–thaw residual compressive strength ratio (BDR) of CSM specimens after freeze–thaw cycles based on the compaction method used. Compared to specimens produced using traditional static compaction methods, specimens produced using gyratory compaction exhibited stronger freeze–thaw resistance.
