description abstractThis research aimed to evaluate the impact of aggregate characteristics on the skid resistance of pavement. Firstly, the mineral composition, wear-resistance property, angularity, and texture of five types of aggregates were determined. Then, the accelerated-wear test for asphalt mixtures was carried out by self-developed accelerated-wear equipment in the laboratory. Then, the degree of influence of each parameter was evaluated through gray correlation degree and linear regression methods. It was found that the mineral composition of different aggregate types is obviously diverse, and the mineral composition has an impact on the wear-resistance property of aggregate. With the increase of wear cycles, the textural depth of the asphalt mixture decreased, but the British Pendulum Number (BPN) increased slightly in the initial stage of wear. Based on the results, it was suggested that to improve the skid resistance of asphalt mixtures, the abrasion resistance index and shape index of aggregate should be taken into consideration. In addition, improving the aggregate processing technology to improve the angularity index (GA) and sphericity (SP) and to reduce flattening rate (L/S) will have great practical significance for improving the skid resistance of asphalt pavement.
