description abstractThe development of an integrated hybrid expert system for structural design using commercially available software tools is reported. The engineer's design knowledge and code requirements are represented in knowledge base form which can be easily modified by designers. The algorithmic aspect of the process, e.g., structural analysis, and various support programs for structural design are coded in FORTRAN and C. The system has been integrated and tested for the design of statically indeterminate reinforced frames with satisfactory results.
