description abstractA technique has been developed for generating fine particles of metaldehyde for possible use in nucleating ice in supercooled clouds. The number of particles effective as ice nuclei is 1012 gm?1 at ?12C and 6?109 gm?1 at ?4C. Attention is drawn to the unusual rapidity with which concentrated metaldehyde smokes coagulate. The evaporation of the particles has also been studied.
