description abstractThe 30th International Conference on Radar Meteorology, held in Munich, Germany, 19?24 July 2001, highlighted recent progress in the field of radar meteorology and demonstrated how radar is used in many integrated ways to better understand and predict atmospheric and hydrologic processes. Major results presented during the technical sessions are discussed in this summary. A statistical review of papers presented at radar conferences during the past decade highlights the mix of contributions from educational, research, and operational institutions, and demonstrates that radar meteorology clearly transcends national borders. The conference featured a special evening event honoring Roger Lhermitte for his pioneering work in radar meteorology.
