description abstractThe Arakawa-Shubert cumulus parameterization scheme is applied in a semi-prognostic case study of a monsoon depression when it was forming over the Bay of Bengal. The cloud-work function quasi-equilibrium is found to hold even in this disturbed situation. Reasonable rates of precipitation and cumulus heating are obtained. Difficulties in the computational aspects of including the scheme in the large-scale numerical model are discussed.
