description abstractGerstner's exact solution for free-surface waves can be modified beyond the modifications given by Yih and Pollard, to describe edge waves in a rotating fluid with mean rotation and in the presence of a mean velocity. The solution is capable of describing edge waves fixed topographically in a flow parallel to shore with a nonuniform, specified vorticity distribution. The solution is only valid for waves propagating east-west. For a different propagation direction one will have to make approximations.
